SUMMER CINEMA | Unique Open-Air Film Screenings

The summer cinema at the botanical garden is back! Enjoy film evenings under the stars every Friday and Saturday throughout August.

Enjoy the extended opening hours and relax with popular film hits from Czechia and abroad. You can savor refreshments during the screenings at our Café Ornament or from the Muflon Brewery stand or Karáskova limonáda stand. Deck chairs and benches will be available, but we recommend bringing your picnic blanket for comfort.

As a bonus to the main screenings, we have prepared a unique selection of short documentary films from the EKOFILM International Environmental Film Festival. These films, showcasing the best from the last four years of the festival, will open each film evening.

Immerse yourself in the extraordinary film atmosphere amidst the botanical garden's beautiful scenery and make the most of your summer evenings!

BASIC AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION

When

Screenings will take place every Friday and Saturday throughout August.

The award-winning environmental films from EKOFILM will be shown in our cinema from 8.00 pm to 8.30/8.45 pm. The main feature will follow starting at 8.30/8.45 pm.

Location

The summer cinema will be set up in the lower part of the garden, specifically in the Slope exposition area behind Café Ornament, near the Ornamental Garden.

On screening days, after the garden's standard closing time at 7.00 pm, there will be an extended opening time until 8.45 pm. During this period, ONLY TWO ENTRANCES will be available for entry into the garden and the screenings:

  • Main Entrance Bohnice
  • The Exit to Nádvorní Street in the Ornamental Garden (normally used only for exit during standard opening hours, but during screenings, it will serve as a ticket office for both entry and exit).

Admission

You can attend the film screenings for free as part of the standard admission to the botanical garden if you enter the garden during regular opening hours from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm and stay in the garden until the screening starts at 8.00 pm.

Admission to the screenings and the Outdoor Expositions after 7.00 pm is subject to a fee (payment on-site by card or cash):

  • 150 CZK/adult
  • 100 CZK/children aged 3 to 15 and seniors aged 60+

Please note, that neighborhood tickets do not apply to the summer cinema; only season passes are valid for this event.

The Count Monte Cristo

A hot new release and grand adaptation of the famous adventure novel by Alexandre Dumas, set in Marseille in 1815. Young naval officer Edmond Dantès is at the peak of his life but is betrayed and unjustly imprisoned in the Château d'If. In his cell, he befriends Abbé Faria, who reveals the secret of a lost treasure. After fourteen years, Edmond escapes, finds the treasure on the island of Monte Cristo, and returns as a dark avenger to seek revenge on his betrayers. The lead role stars Pierre Niney.

Gump - We're a Duo

 

Hello everyone, it's Gump! It's been a while, but I've been happy. Now, I'm embarking on a new film journey with Béďa Kozí Bobek. Along the way, I'll meet many new people and animals, including the brave piglet Prince, the arrogant rooster Silver, the pony tomorrow, and the dog Julián, who saved his people's lives. And I'll find my sister, Kytička. The film will be more cheerful than the first one, but still full of emotions. It's for everyone who reads from the dogs' eyes and even those who don't believe in it yet.

Short Films from the EKOFILM International Film Festival

EKOFILM is the oldest international film festival in Europe focused on environmental themes. It dates back to 1974 when it split from the Techfilm festival. Since 1991, it has been primarily organized by the Czech Ministry of the Environment. Each year, the festival showcases dozens of competitive films from around the world and hosts notable Czech and international guests.

Pasture

He inherited a piece of land that had been neglected for years and overgrown with volunteer woody plants. Initially, horses grazed there. In the second year, a group of enthusiasts built garden beds and invited others to join in communal gardening and digging in the soil. For people who live in apartments or don't have a garden, this is a great opportunity to grow their own organic vegetables. As a bonus, everyone enjoys the shared experiences, interactions, and time spent together. Follow the first steps of the newly established community garden Pastvina on the outskirts of Prague, directed by Josef Dvořák.

Garden as Paradise

The concept of natural gardens reached us in Austria roughly ten years ago, where the creation and care of such gardens have been practiced for a longer period. Today, there are approximately five hundred of these gardens in Czechia. What criteria must a garden meet to receive certification as a natural garden? Director Jana Hádková attempts to answer these and other questions in her film.
