This year's exhibition is inspired by the vibrant celebrations of Día de los Muertos, the traditional Mexican holiday that honors the memory of the deceased and celebrates life. The garden will be transformed with spooky skulls, skeletons, and other Mexican-themed decorations, creating the atmosphere of this unique festival. The exhibition is a collaboration between students from the Czech Horticultural School in Mělník, led by Petra Křížová, and our talented gardeners.
Día de los Muertos is a lively and colorful tradition celebrated on 1 and 2 November. Unlike the solemn rituals in Europe, this holiday is marked by joyous celebrations in remembrance of the deceased, whose spirits are believed to visit the living during these days. The symbols of this tradition are altars, flowers, vibrant costumes, and intricately decorated skulls known as "Calaveras."
Alongside the exhibition, there will be a rich weekend program packed with creative activities. We’ll start on the weekend of 12 and 13 October, with Mexican-themed Craft Workshops. The following weekend, 19 and 20 October, will be dedicated to Pumpkin Fun. On the final weekend of October, 26 and 27, you'll have the chance to carve pumpkins and create your very own pumpkin lanterns. All activities will be held in our covered Exhibition Hall, rain or shine.
The grand finale of the exhibition will be the Halloween celebration on 31 October, featuring an evening lantern parade through the garden.
The exhibition takes place in the Ornamental Garden and Forest Exposition from 11 October to 3 November. Workshops as part of the accompanying program will be held in the covered Exhibition Hall in the Ornamental Garden.
Admission to the exhibition is included in the standard entrance fee to the botanical garden.
