Orchids - Miniatures and giants of Ecuador

This year's autumn exhibition will present the plant richness and extremes of the South American Ecuador, in a really varied arrangement. The exhibition will focus mainly on the extremes in this plant group, both on miniatures and species growing to giant size.

Ecuador full of contrasts

In South American Ecuador, more than 4,000 species of orchids can be found in the wild. Curators of our garden made an expedition to this country in 2019 with the aim of studying plants in their original habitats in natural environment. They use the acquired knowledge in the cultivation of orchids and other valuable plants in our collections. A number of photographs of the local landscape and plants from this expedition will brighten up the upcoming exhibition. Although Ecuador is not large in area, we encounter the highest biodiversity in the world. The variedness of the environment is reflected in the incredible diversity of local nature.

Floral arrangements

Klára Franc Vavříková, one of the best Czech florists, Will design anr realize the exhibition floral arrangements. Klára is participating in our orchid exhibition for the third time in a row. She was inspired by South American Ecuador and its diverse range of colors. During a walk through the greenhouse, you will meet many typical symbols of this country, visit the flower market, see a colorful hummingbird and you will have an active volcano at your fingertips. All decorated using a variety of materials, such as Precioza’s Czech glass beads and complemented by multicolored flowers of live orchids and other plants.
