BUTTERFLIES: Odyssey of Adventure | Exhibition of Tropical Butterflies in the Fata Morgana Greenhouse

Do you know which butterfly species flies the longest distances during its lifetime, or which hardly moves from its spot? We invite you on an adventurous journey. Discover that some butterflies are true homebodies and other great travelers capable of covering enormous distances. Get ready for an exploration of the world from a butterfly's perspective.

Witness the magical transformation from a chrysalis into an adult butterfly with your own eyes.

Marvel at their first flight, their elegant dance through the air, and the colorful kaleidoscope of their wings.

Let yourself be embraced by their gentle presence.

BASIC AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The exhibition is focused on migration and will take place from 19 April to 2 June. It is a must-see for both children and adults.

Migratory butterfly species can be found on all continents and various reasons, such as food availability, suitable temperatures, and sufficient humidity, can lead them to migrate. You will discover many secrets about these aspects of their lives at the exhibition.

Our garden has collaborated with a butterfly farm in Stratford-upon-Avon for several years. Gradually, the garden receives around 5,000 chrysalises of several dozen butterfly species. You will encounter a variety of playful four-footed butterflies, colorful swallowtails, or popular and intriguing Atlas moths.

This year's edition is truly packed. Besides the exhibition of exotic butterflies in the greenhouse, you can look forward to a rich weekend accompanying program. This program includes creative workshops, a supplementary exhibition of long-extinct species of tropical butterflies in the Small Hall titled "Lost Beauty," and a panel exhibition with interesting information about the world of butterflies and their conservation.

LOST BEAUTY - EXHIBITION OF LONG-EXTINCT SPECIES OF TROPICAL BUTTERFLIES

Take a peek back in time during the exhibition of extinct tropical butterfly species titled “Lost Beauty,” organized by our garden in cooperation with the Museum of Eastern Bohemia in Hradec Králové.

The attractive exhibits of tropical butterflies for this exhibition come from Africa, Indonesia, New Guinea, and the Himalayas. The entire exhibition is complemented by artistic watercolors by the academic painter Otakar Řípa, who shows the surprising color and shape diversity of exotic representatives of the Lepidoptera order. Painter Otakar Řípa has created a series of watercolors inspired by Max Švabinský's intaglio reproductions "Butterfly Moments." These paintings, based on real butterfly specimens, capture butterflies' beauty and diverse shapes through rich detail in drawings and vibrant colors.

During the exhibition, workshops will be held on weekends and holidays, offering insights into the intricate details of butterfly wings and bodies under a microscope.

The exhibition is located in the Small Hall in the Ornamental Garden.

The exhibition is open daily from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.

WEEKEND WORKSHOPS

During the weekends and holidays of May 1 and 8, all visitors and interested parties will be able to try various creations in thematic workshops from wooden plywood.

The workshops always take place on the weekend and during the holidays of May 1 and 8, during the time of the exhibition, from 11.00 am. to 5.00 pm. on the terrace under the Fata Morgana greenhouse (there will be a navigation system in the garden, you will not get lost).

The price for the material is CZK 30 - a payment on the spot only in cash (please prepare the change, it will help us a lot).

We look forward to you!
